After reading Chapter 1 of "The Story in the Picture," I gained a greater knowledge and appreciation for art education. As educators, we should teach through art to create a well-rounded student. Although general cirrculum is very important, art education is just as imperative for students to learn. Many skills are attained through art education such as, appreciating diversity, imaginative and critical thinking, and storytelling. Teachers can also learn more about their students through art education, becuase children tend to share/express personal experiences through artwork. Anyone that says that art in education is a waste of time or unimportant are wrong, because art education is vital to the development of a child.
